The Akron BMV (Deputy Registrar 7731, 688 Wolf Ledges Parkway) is committed to providing accessible public service for visitors with disabilities. If an accessibility need or barrier could affect your visit, call the office before you come so staff can help you plan the best way to complete your transaction: (330) 434-3134.

This page covers parking, staff assistance, disability placards and plates, and online options that may help you complete some BMV business without a trip to the office.

Accessible parking & getting to the door

  • Free on-site lot with accessible spaces marked near the entrance, no meters, no garage, no parking app.
  • A short, step-free route from the accessible parking area to the entrance.
  • If the lot is full at a peak time, nearby street parking is usually available; aim for a quieter window (see Wait times) to park closest.

See Hours, location & directions for the map, directions from around Summit County, and transit options.

In the office

The Akron BMV is a public counter service location. Staff can help with the order of steps for your transaction, explain forms, and provide practical assistance during your visit. If you need a specific accommodation, call ahead so the branch can prepare.

Accommodations and assistance

Staff are glad to help you complete your transaction. During your visit, you may ask for:

  • Reading or completing forms and explaining steps at the counter.
  • Communication support, let staff know what works best for you.
  • Bringing a helper. You are welcome to bring a family member, caregiver, or aide to assist during your visit.
  • Service animals. Service animals are welcome in public service areas as required by the ADA.

If you need a specific accommodation, it helps to call ahead so the branch can be ready: (330) 434-3134.

Tip: Visiting at a quiet time (midweek mid-morning or mid-afternoon, see Wait times) means more space, shorter waits, and staff with more time to help.

Disability placards & accessible plates

The Akron BMV issues removable windshield placards and accessible (disability) license plates for residents with qualifying disabilities. You will need the application with the certifying medical statement from a qualified provider.

Skip the trip: online options

For many tasks, the most accessible option is not traveling at all:

  • Renew registration online at OPLATES.com from home, see Online vs. in-person.
  • Renew an eligible driver license online if you are not in the photo/vision cycle, see Driver license renewal.
  • If you must visit, Get in Line Online lets you wait from your vehicle or home instead of standing in the lobby.

Website accessibility

We build AkronBMV.com to be usable for everyone: keyboard-navigable, screen-reader friendly, with sufficient color contrast, and motion that respects reduced-motion settings so animations never get in the way. If you experience a digital accessibility barrier on this website, call the office at (330) 434-3134 and describe the page, device, browser, and assistive technology involved so the issue can be reviewed.
